Role Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based role covering multiple Northeast states, operating as an extension of the US Medical Affairs organization. The MSL develops and enhances professional relationships with medical thought leaders involved in various phases of product development and provides medical information and scientific support for Jazz Pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
  • Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with US Medical Affairs plans.
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments.
  • Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through on-site presentations at institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings.
  • Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, emerging research, therapeutic issues, trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Establish reputation as a trustworthy source of scientific information for the healthcare community.
  • Support development of Jazz Pharmaceuticals' positioning as a scientific authority; attend scientific congresses to stay current and support KOL activities.
  • Acquire understanding of local and national clinical practice protocols and disease management trends in the US.
  • Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings (group and one-on-one).
  • Communicate emerging data and clinical experience through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions.
  • Provide support for data generation activities (company-sponsored studies, collaboration studies, ISTs).
  • Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and local strategies/tactics.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure a Key Account Management approach; align scientific engagement with organizational objectives.
  • Interact with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan including advisory boards, speaker development, and clinical trials.

Qualifications

  • Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: ability to communicate complex scientific information; clear, concise communication and presentation skills; excellent planning and organizational skills; strong strategic mindset; highly self-motivated and autonomous; quick learner and flexible in a changing environment; excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills; proven collaboration with commercial teams while maintaining scientific integrity and compliance; strong digital fluency; excellent spoken English.
  • Preferred: demonstrated success supporting product launches in a field medical capacity; experience managing multiple molecules or therapeutic areas; track record of clinical trial site support and patient recruitment; understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
  • Education/Licenses: Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease; or license (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with Master’s Degree and at least 5 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease clinical practice; minimum 2 years’ experience as an MSL or comparable role; experience in neuro-oncology strongly preferred; willingness to travel 60–70% of the time; valid driver’s license and residence within 60 miles of a major airport.

Additional Requirements
