Role Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific role within Jazz Pharmaceuticals, serving as an extension of the US Medical Affairs organization. The MSL develops and enhances professional relationships with medical thought leaders across phases of product development, providing medical information through scientific exchange and clinical support. Travel is required to cover a multi-state territory.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
  • Develop and execute territory plans aligned with US Medical Affairs plans.
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments.
  • Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through on-site presentations at institutions, investigator meetings, conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings.
  • Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, emerging research, and competitive landscape.
  • Establish reputation as a trustworthy source of scientific information; attend scientific congresses to support KOL activities.
  • Understand local and national clinical practice standards and trends; provide clinical presentations in various settings.
  • Communicate emerging data and clinical experiences through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions, discussing benefits and risks objectively.
  • Support data generation activities (company-sponsored studies, collaboration studies, ISTs).
  • Contribute to Medical Plan development and coordinate with cross-functional teams to align scientific engagement with organizational objectives.
  • Interact with HCPs as a scientific resource for advisory boards, speaker development, and clinical trials.
  • Maintain adherence to company standards, ethics, and codes of practice; document reports of adverse events and product complaints as required.

Qualifications

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ability to communicate complex scientific information; clear presentation skills; strong planning and organizational abilities; strategic mindset; self-motivated; adaptable in a changing environment; strong negotiation and interpersonal skills; experience collaborating with commercial teams while maintaining scientific integrity; proficiency with digital tools; excellent spoken English.
  • Preferred: success supporting product launches in a field medical capacity; experience managing multiple molecules or therapeutic areas; track record in clinical trial site support and patient recruitment; understanding regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
  • Education and Licenses: Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease; or licensed RN/NP/CNP/PA with Master’s degree and at least 5 years’ experience in Oncology or Rare Disease clinical practice; at least 2 years’ experience as an MSL or in a comparable role; neuro-oncology experience strongly preferred; field position requiring 60–70% travel; valid driver’s license and proximity to a major airport (within 60 miles).

Additional Requirements

  • Describe travel expectations: 60–70% travel required for field-based role.
  • Physical demands: frequent travel; computer and office equipment use; occasional non-standard hours may be required.
