Role Summary

Medical Science Liaison, Hepatology – Field Based role focusing on execution of external engagement strategy for Hepatology portfolio, and implementation of engagement plans aligned to therapy area strategies in the Northeast territory.

Responsibilities

  • Work with medical colleagues and other business partners to identify External Experts (Liver Specialists), professional groups, decision makers and other key stakeholders in the assigned therapy area of Hepatology and/or geography
  • Respond compliantly to unsolicited information requests from healthcare professionals regarding licensed or un-licensed medicines; ensure medical information responses are factual, fair, balanced, scientifically rigorous and compliant with standards and local laws
  • Disseminate safety information to the healthcare profession as directed; conduct scientific exchange for Hepatology medicines on label to inform and educate HCPs; deliver scientific/pipeline presentations to formulary committees and HCPs
  • Maintain expertise in Hepatology and in competitor medicines and vaccines
  • Attend and contribute to medical portions of regional account planning/training sessions
  • Attend national, regional, and local scientific/medical meetings to gain medical insight on data and disease states relevant to GSK products
  • Support clinical development activities and programs including GSK and Investigator Sponsored Studies; collaborate with R&D to improve site performance; provide insight into research interests
  • Conduct discussions with steering committees, advisory boards, consultants on topics related to GSK work, including clinical research investigators and sponsored publications
  • Provide scientific training for GSK sales representatives on Hepatology products; train HCPs to speak on behalf of GSK; assist with speaker training events
  • Partner with matrix colleagues to ensure patient and business-focused strategies and add value to External Experts
  • Demonstrate understanding of Hepatology therapy area and market dynamics; engage HCPs in scientific discussions aligned with medical strategy
  • Develop clear strategic vision for the territory with identification, mapping, and planning of scientific engagements in line with medical strategy

Qualifications

  • Required: Pharm. D or Ph. D, DNP, or MD (medical/clinical focus)
  • Required: Two or more years in pharmacology/pharmacotherapy with clinical application experience
  • Required: Experience engaging in peer-to-peer scientific exchange with medical professionals and decision makers
  • Required: Experience creating and delivering medical-based presentations
  • Required: Experience identifying opportunities for medical engagement and developing goals
  • Required: Experience building relationships with external HCPs, KOLs, external experts, and internal stakeholders
  • Required: Willingness to travel 50–75% of time
  • Required: Must live within the specified territory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residency or Post-Doctoral training in clinical/pharmaceutical practice
  • Clinical experience with direct/indirect patient care decision-making authority
  • Pharmaceutical industry, clinical education, or medical liaison experience in Hepatology
  • Strong computer literacy and experience with software applications
