Role Summary
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based clinical role within Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines, responsible for providing fair, balanced, objective scientific information and education to opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and internal partners. The MSL builds external relationships, develops territory plans, and conducts activities in accordance with regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines. Travel is required, primarily within the assigned geography, with significant in-person engagement; travel is estimated at approximately 60%.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a field strategic plan for the territory
- Respond in a timely manner to unsolicited scientific inquiries from healthcare professionals, investigators, and decision makers, integrating real-world evidence into practice
- Present data and information tailored to the audience and request
- Execute reactive and proactive outreach plans as approved
- Integrate scientific data into real-life practice and adapt communication to different audiences
- Anticipate responses of various stakeholders and balance franchise initiatives with administrative duties
Executes Research Initiatives
- Leverage knowledge of standards of care, investigator-sponsored trials, and competitor landscape to facilitate external-internal research communication
- Engage with external investigators regarding inquiries and liaise with R&D, Medical Affairs, and operations
- Provide clinical trial support to identify sites, resolve issues, and participate in meetings (e.g., site initiation, investigator meetings)
- Lead at least one scientific or strategic Immunology project and identify educational gaps
Demonstrates Scientific Acumen
- Participate in team calls, trainings, and journal clubs; understand current standard of care and share scientific news
- Attend and contribute at scientific conferences; gather new information relevant to the company and external community
- Document and synthesize medical insights for the MSL team and partners
- Dedicate time for self-driven learning of the scientific landscape
- Represent and support Johnson & Johnson at conferences, advisory boards, and investigator meetings
Department Operations and Internal Partnerships
- Complete administrative requirements accurately and timely
- Provide regional/local support to enhance training and competencies of field personnel
- Collaborate with field-based partners and Immunology MSL teams regularly
- Lead or participate in large-scale projects as needed
- Maintain understanding of regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines and Medical Affairs SOPs
Qualifications
- PharmD, PhD, MD, or other advanced medical degree; NP or PA considered, with 2+ years relevant therapeutic area clinical experience
- Ability to travel up to 70% including overnight and some weekend commitments
- Ability to drive and fly to meetings/congresses/headquarters
- Valid U.S. driverβs license and clean driving record
Preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience including clinical, research, fellowship, or pharmaceutical work with presentation skills
- Knowledge or experience in the relevant therapeutic area and/or Immunology
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and remote technologies
- Reside near Long Island
