Role Summary
The Medical Science Liaison for CardioRenal in Charleston, SC is a field-based scientific and clinical role focused on providing medical and scientific support for Cardiorenal products, new indications, and development compounds. You will engage in scientific exchanges with KOLs, KDMs, and HCPs, build peer-level relationships with decision-makers and researchers, and identify investigators for clinical development activities. The role aims to address barriers to disease management, deliver clinical and scientific information to support appropriate product use, and contribute to practice-changing outcomes in partnership with Therapeutic Brand Teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical and scientific support for Cardiorenal marketed products, new indications, and development compounds.
- Engage in scientific exchange with targeted Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Decision Makers (KDMs), and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) in alignment with Medical Affairs objectives.
- Identify and engage key customers with scientific expertise and business knowledge of AstraZeneca products, developing peer-level relationships with KDMs, HCPs, and researchers.
- Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with Clinical Development goals and Therapeutic Brand Teams initiatives.
- Uncover barriers to optimal disease management, identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, and provide actionable information that enhances product value and appropriate use.
- Respond to customer inquiries with focused and balanced clinical and scientific information to support appropriate product use.
- Deliver clinical and scientific information that differentiates products in the market.
- Adhere to internal processes and regulatory/compliance requirements; maintain expertise in disease state management, emerging therapies, and competitive landscape.
- Provide clinical support and deliver data presentations regionally and nationally; demonstrate project leadership across the field medical team and therapeutic area.
- Train and mentor within the therapeutic area, provide performance guidelines, and offer coaching.
Qualifications
- Required: Advanced Clinical/Science Degree (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA-C; BSN with extensive clinical experience may be considered).
- Required: 0-2 years of experience in a clinical or commercial setting.
- Required: Thorough understanding of the healthcare system landscape.
- Required: Established networks and clinical experience within the Therapeutic Area focus.
- Required: Experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Required: Demonstrated ability to discuss scientific content and context to multiple audiences.
- Required: Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Required: Strong leadership capabilities.
- Required: Excellent project management ability.
- Required: Thorough knowledge of the regulatory environment.
- Required: Ability to travel 50-70% (percentage varies with geography).
- Preferred: Established experience delivering quality improvement initiatives.
- Preferred: 2+ yearsβ experience as a Medical Science Liaison in the pharmaceutical industry.
