General Summary:
- Provide medical leadership for the Medical Department in the Nephrology therapeutic area.
- Accountable for development and implementation of the North American Medical strategy and plans; partner with cross-functional teams to support access to company products and implement cross-functional country plans aligned with patient, HCP, and corporate needs.
- Build scientific excellence, and engage with HCPs, scientific societies, and patient organizations.
- Own financial planning and budgetary adherence for medical affairs activities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive expertise and guidance in Nephrology therapeutic area and Vertex drugs.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with local HCPs, professional societies, and patient advocacy groups.
- Establish relationships with thought leaders; develop local advisory/collaborative/educational activities aligned to Vertex strategy.
- Execute the local Medical Operational Plan in accordance with corporate policies/procedures and applicable laws/regulations.
- Serve as the reference for medical input/support to local operations to enable safe access for appropriate patients.
- Ensure locally provided scientific data to HCPs and health authorities is fair and balanced.
- Act as local medical contributor/reviewer/approver of field/promotional/access/medical information materials.
- Maintain seamless information flow within the local structure and communicate medical insights to inform local/regional strategy.
- Maintain high-level industry, regulatory, clinical, and scientific knowledge.

Knowledge & Skills:
- Experience leading pre- and post-launch Medical Affairs strategies with external engagement (HCPs/KOLs).
- Ability to influence across a complex matrix organization.
- High expertise and judgment in technical and ethical aspects of a medical director role.
- Ability to anticipate issues and respond flexibly.
- Knowledge of national healthcare and regulatory environments.
- Essential experience in scientific interactions with payer bodies.
- Knowledge of marketplace dynamics.
- Track record planning and delivering high-quality projects on time.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
- Capacity to critically analyze scientific literature.

Education & Experience:
- MD, DO, Physician Assistant (PA), or equivalent ex-US medical degree.
- Typically 8 years of experience and 2 years of supervisory/management experience (or equivalent education/experience).

Travel:
- Up to 20% based on business need.

Location/Work Setup:
- Boston, MA corporate offices; 3 days/week on-site.

Flex Designation:
- Hybrid-Eligible or On-Site Eligible.
- Hybrid: work remotely up to two days/week; On-Site: work five days/week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.

Pay Range:
- $187,400 - $281,200.
