Role: Manufacturing Technology Engineer focusing on Inspection & Converting systems within 3M's Automated Inspection and Measurement group. Objectives: design, integrate, and support smart slitters and converting systems that utilize upstream web inspection data for automation, defect detection, and process optimization. Responsibilities include developing automated inspection solutions with optics, machine vision, and data analytics, translating inspection data into actionable manufacturing strategies, troubleshooting and optimizing systems in production, and supporting standardization across platforms. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field; 3+ years in automated inspection, machine vision, or converting systems; experience with web handling, roll-good defect detection, and process data integration; familiarity with industrial hardware (PLCs, sensors, vision hardware) and software (image processing, data analytics). Preferred: advanced degree, experience with AI/ML, and cross-functional collaboration skills. High-value: focus on automated inspection and converting technologies, Industry 4.0, and process optimization in manufacturing. Work setup: onsite in Maplewood, MN, with up to 25% travel nationally and internationally. Relocation support may be available.
