Role Summary

The USMA Manager of Virology Scientific Collaboration serves as the primary contact for US Medical Affairs engagement with external societies and medical-scientific organizations. The role partners across USMA Virology with a focus on HIV, HIV prevention, and liver disease initiatives, and collaborates with cross-functional teams. Location: Foster City, CA or Parsippany, NJ. Reports to the USMA Virology Scientific Collaboration Senior Director.

Responsibilities

  • Leads engagements with external societies and scientific/medical organizations.
  • Develops engagement strategies and key initiatives with scientific educational organizations.
  • Works cross functionally within US Affiliate teams (USMA, Commercial, Legal and Medical Governance, Public Affairs and Government Affairs) and on initiatives related to key external collaborations, projects, and working groups.
  • Develops novel medical educational tools and medical symposia for conferences based on virology therapeutic area medical strategy.
  • Participates in external scientific engagements in partnership with Gilead Medical Affairs colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Required: BS/BA with 6+ years or MS/MA with 4+ years of experience.
  • Required: MD, PhD, PharmD, NP or PA or other advanced health care degree and 1–3 years of relevant work experience in HIV, viral hepatitis, or related clinical field.
  • Preferred: 2+ years industry experience.
  • Required: Ability to cultivate, strengthen, and strategically manage high‑impact relationships with external scientific and medical organizations—including professional societies, academic partners, and community leaders.
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to shape Medical Affairs strategy by integrating scientific insights, organizational priorities, and external landscape trends, and to translate strategic direction into clear, actionable, and measurable implementation plans.
  • Required: Strong strategic and organizational skills with a track record of leading complex projects—ensuring alignment, resource coordination, and delivery of high‑quality outputs.
  • Required: Ability to anticipate emerging needs, proactively manage competing priorities, and allocate resources across concurrent projects by applying sound judgment, risk assessment, and forward‑thinking planning.
  • Required: Strong cross‑functional leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive alignment and foster a culture of shared accountability. Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and consistently dependable in meeting ambitious timelines in a rapid, dynamic environment.
  • Required: Deep understanding of regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements governing Medical Affairs with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Required: Thrives in a matrixed environment with a high level of autonomy, navigating ambiguity, and driving initiatives forward while maintaining clear communication and engaging partners at all levels of the organization.
