Position Summary:
The Manager - Pathology Operations oversees daily operations of the Pathologist Assistants, Pathology Operation, and Pathology Support teams. Monitors Marking and Ordering, CISH, and Microdissection workflows; ensures goals, quality results, and QC guidelines are met; troubleshoots dissection, marking/ordering, and CISH issues. Manages Pathologist Operations workflow including case distribution, discrepancy reviews/PAQA, PathQA, and dissection QAs. Resolves conflicts, tracks employee hours, and schedules staff. Ensures Pathologist Assistants and Pathology Associates meet task requirements (competencies, continuing education, safety training) and maintains communication via one-on-ones; coordinates with other departments and upper management to ensure policies/procedures and regulatory compliance. Assists with Pathologistsโ€™ work schedule, daily workflow, competencies, and trainings. Performs other management tasks as assigned and also performs tasks of the Pathologists Assistant IV.

Job Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Director โ€“ Pathology Operations; supports Pathologist Assistant Managers and Directors.
- Manages the Pathologist Assistant, Pathology Operation, and Pathology Support teams.
- Maintains technical expertise; reads pathology reports and reviews H&E staining; determines specimen primary site.
- Identifies tumor/normal tissue on NFR slides and collects marked areas for molecular analysis (micro/macro).
- Assesses CISH stains for gene amplification; evaluates tumor content and orders appropriate testing.
- Performs Limited Tissue Letter reviews and discrepancy reviews; identifies missing/wrong information and opens discrepancies.
- Assigns/distributes cases to Pathologists; provides complex troubleshooting and refines workflow with Pathologists and specialists.
- Leads training; assists with validations, CAP competencies, training materials, and studies.
- Maintains laboratory procedures; ensures compliance and recommends changes.
- Performs and documents microdissection equipment operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Organizes/maintains QA metrics and documentation; performs QC/QA tests as required.
- Prioritizes/triages specimens; handles/disposes of specimens and chemical waste per procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains confidentiality; reports test quality/safety concerns to appropriate leaders.
- Maintains knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.

Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years progressive leadership experience in a Pathology laboratory in a CLIA, NYS, CAP, ISO regulated environment.
- Bachelorโ€™s degree in chemical/biological/clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology (accredited).
- OR qualifying B.S. degree with at least 60 semester hours (incl. required science/MLT coursework) plus ABHES/CAAHEP-approved clinical laboratory training OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty for high complexity testing.
- High degree of care/attention with strict adherence to clinical testing protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant technical pathology qualifications; 7+ years pathology lab experience in CLIA/NYS/CAP/ISO.
- Advanced degree/certifications (e.g., MD, ASCP Cytotechnologist, ASCP/AAPA Pathologist Assistant, ASCP Histotechnologist) or other applicable certification.
- Knowledge of lab safety and QC procedures/regulations.
- Ability to multitask in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Internet for business use.
- Drive for Results (Service/Quality/Continuous Improvement), strong communication, teamwork, and customer service focus.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit/stand/work at a computer for long periods; repetitive motion.
- May be exposed to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise, fumes, bio-hazardous chemicals (including formalin).
- Visual acuity and color discrimination; ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Training:
- Job-specific safety and compliance training assigned based on role functions.

Other:
- Periodic travel and some evenings/weekends/holidays.
