Role Summary
Responsible for all aspects of fire & gas detection life safety systems, including troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and training of personnel in their use.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily monitoring actions, such as reviewing trouble, supervisory, and fire/gas detection alarms, supporting their investigation and correction as needed, to include supporting these actions during off-hours, in order to handle critical or emergency situations
- Conduct weekly line walks of fire suppression systems in each area to verify proper function and integrity of equipment (check pressure gauges, valves and seals, backflow assemblies, fire pump/riser equipment, and fire curtains)
- Respond to integrity issues with any aspect of fire suppression systems
- Perform routine inspection of emergency backup systems (fire panel and fire curtain batteries, etc.)
- Test common audible and visual signals in each building and testing of initiating device from input to output
- Coordinate system impairment (including permits) as needed for maintenance or fire drills
- Ensure that hot work is being safely conducted during bypassing of safety equipment
- Assist metrology with calibrations or other non-routine maintenance/repairs
- Communicate with safety contractors to handle fire and gas related repairs (write notifications, bring contractor onsite and escort to fix leaking head, faulty smoke detector, etc.)

- Provide training on fire alarm panels, fire system remote monitoring stations (TSW), and gas detection monitoring systems
- Coordinate and support contractors in performing semi-annual, annual, and other less frequent inspections
- Support expansion work (drawings, additional water needs, etc.)
- Follow all safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties
- Other accountabilities, as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience with troubleshooting and maintenance of process equipment required
- Minimum of two years of experience with support of integrated / automated life safety systems (fire alarm systems preferred) preferred
- Experience in pharmaceutical (cGMP) environment a plus
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required
- Computer/IT skills to support working with and training others on remote system interfaces preferred
- Familiarity with fire suppression equipment in large industrial settings preferred
- Hands-on mechanical skills for tasks such as leak repair, gasket or valve replacement, sprinkler head adjustment, etc. Preferred
- Attention to detail, ability to think critically and sequentially with proven time management skills as well as excellent communication skills required
- Certification in OSHA Fire Safety, NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist or similar certification a plus
Education
- Associate's Degree in related field from an accredited university required
Additional Requirements
- Moves equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions.
- Routinely operates and inspects manufacturing equipment using hands.
- Ability to be on feet for up to a 12-hour shift.
- May require corrected vision to 20/25 based on role.
- May require color vision based on role.
- Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights.
- Occasionally works around odorous and/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear gloves.
- Occasionally performs critical job functions in extremely cold work environments.
- Occasionally positions oneself within confined spaces for inspection, repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection.
- Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions.
- Able to pass a driving exam for powered industrial trucks. Does not require a valid driverβs license.
