Role Summary

The Manager, Logistics oversees transportation for the clinical manufacturing supply chain, inbound research, discovery and development functions. This role requires strong knowledge of domestic and international import/export regulations and the ability to troubleshoot transportation-related issues with trade documents and clearance execution. Experience with Cold Chain Logistics is preferred. The role also involves building relationships with team members to ensure proper communication and handling of freight in transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with internal teams across Clinical, Manufacturing, and Quality functions and external partners to coordinate inbound and outbound cold chain logistics activities.
  • Oversee the activities and performance of logistics operations team members and transportation carriers.
  • Manage annual transportation purchase orders and budgets.
  • Coordinate and ensure all necessary documentation is prepared between third-party ship sites, CMOs, depots, and sites.
  • Standardize processes and documents required for compliant import and export activities, including reviewing third-party documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs related to internal processes and partners involved in transport activities.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with company record keeping requirements by logistics team members.
  • Monitor critical shipments and resolve shipping-related issues with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Report and investigate shipping incidents with Quality Assurance.
  • Identify risks to drug supply and work with internal partners to mitigate.
  • Document and manage shipping lanes for bulk clinical or commercial supply.
  • Perform shipping studies to qualify transport solutions and procedures.
  • Manage the Transportation Management System (TMS) administration for clinical manufacturing, research, and development shipments.
  • Review and approve invoices for payment and rectify accounts payable discrepancies.
  • Stay informed of global regulatory changes related to international trade to ensure compliance.
  • Represent Supply Chain Logistics in meetings and provide visibility through reports for key supply lanes to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in a related discipline with a minimum of seven years of transportation logistics experience; or
  • MS/MA in supply chain with a minimum of five years of transportation logistics experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Global transportation logistics experience.
  • Experience with global import and export regulations.
  • Knowledge of documentation requirements for shipments.
  • Strong understanding of GxP in relation to transportation.
  • Experience with cold chain logistics.
  • Experience with SaaS Transport Management applications preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly spreadsheets and Outlook.

Skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize numerous tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to determine appropriate oversight for shipments and packaging and transport providers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical supply chain processes.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Environment: primarily indoors, clerical work; may require after-hours or weekend work for critical shipments.
