Job Summary
Provide expert legal advice and counseling to business partners on strategic and tactical projects in a highly regulated environment. Report to the Assistant General Counsel and support Market Access, Government Affairs & Public Policy, and pipeline areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise business partners on commercial initiatives; advance company strategy while addressing legal risks and protecting integrity/reputation.
- Provide legal counsel on: Medicaid, Medicare, 340B program, Veterans Health Care Act; market access and reimbursement; government pricing and price reporting compliance; Medicare/Medicaid final rules and related correspondence/comments; federal and state legislation affecting pricing/market access and transparency; contracting/services for specialty distributors and pharmacies; data/special projects; brand strategic planning and business operation plans.
- Stay abreast of evolving healthcare laws/regulations and enforcement landscape; ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies (including Anti-kickback Statute and other US healthcare compliance laws).
- Collaborate with colleagues (commercial, pipeline, privacy) and review select Communication Review Committee materials.
- Participate in Legal & Compliance projects/committees; share knowledge via presentations/discussions.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school; member of a state bar.
- 8+ years post-JD advising in life sciences (law firm and/or in-house in biopharma).
- Government price reporting experience.
- Experience advising on Medicaid/340B/Veterans Administration, anti-kickback statutes, state drug pricing transparency laws, OIG guidance/advisory opinions, False Claims Act, and PhRMA Code.
- Strong communication; advanced contracting/redlining; analytical/problem-solving/organizational skills.
- Ability to manage outside counsel and budgets.
- Experience advising on specialty medicines (highly desired).
Pay Range & Flex
- $214,400–$321,600; eligible for annual bonus and annual equity awards.
- Remote-eligible (Remote/Hybrid/On-Site options per Flex @ Vertex).
