Role Summary

Lead Counsel, Market Access, Oncology provides day-to-day legal support to the Patient, Value and Access (PVA) team within the Oncology Business Unit, covering pricing, payor and GPO contracting, government price reporting, co-pay programming, and patient services for inline and launch products in the US Market. The role reports to the Head Counsel, Takeda Global Oncology, and collaborates closely with Oncology Business Unit clients.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic legal counsel to management on product pricing and access matters, representing Legal on relevant leadership committees.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and negotiating complex government, payer, pharmacy and distributor agreements, including agreements with commercial and Medicare payers, PBMs, Oncology GPOs, the VA, FSS, Medicaid, DOD, specialty pharmacies, and distributors.
  • Developing and implementing business rules and contract playbooks to facilitate speed, efficiency and compliance.
  • Serving as counsel for Government Price Reporting regarding legal, regulatory, and compliance issues for federal government price reporting across the oncology portfolio.
  • Developing deep knowledge of Takedaโ€šร„รดs business and keeping abreast of changes in law affecting supported client areas.
  • Providing training and guidance for field representatives and the PVA function.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and bar membership in at least one jurisdiction.
  • 10+ years of legal experience with at least 5 years in market access, in a law firm and/or in-house legal department of a pharmaceutical or device company.
  • Proficiency in commercial payer, government payer and trade contracting.
  • Developing proficiency in government price reporting requirements (AMP, Best Price, ASP, 340B) and federal health care program contracting (e.g., Medicaid, VA).
  • Understanding laws impacting commercial pharmaceutical/device operations (Antikickback Statute, FCA, FDCA, Medicaid, IRA, ACA).
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to provide practical legal solutions in high-pressure, matrixed environments.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills to convey complex concepts to stakeholders.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate in alignment with Takedaโ€šร„รดs values.
