Job Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen return activities for the clinical laboratory, including clerical/ancillary duties (specimen storage/retrieval and shipment setup/packaging).
- File Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) blocks in accession # order after microtomy; pull blocks from storage as needed for additional testing.
- Prepare patient sample shipments back to originating pathology laboratory (label creation and package setup).
- Capture all outgoing specimens under the Video Receipt detail camera.
- Follow all applicable local, state, and federal regulations for shipment of biological specimens.
- Maintain quality by confirming specimen identifiers are accurately entered into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Confirm correct originating pathology laboratory and shipping address are associated in the LIS; coordinate updates with Customer Support as needed.
- Review case documents to ensure specimens are sent to the correct pathology laboratory.
- Capture appropriate information in the LIS and other logs as necessary.
- Audit lab queues and specimen storage locations to ensure timely returns.
- Monitor the department email inbox and respond timely.
- Assist with related duties and special projects as required; accepts other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications / Required Skills:
- 1–3 years’ experience in general laboratory operations.
- Ability to take/follow direction and identify appropriate resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general Internet use for business.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong attention to detail; drive for results (service/quality/continuous improvement).
- Proficient verbal and written communication; teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Customer service focus.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards/chemicals and quality control procedures/regulations.

Physical Demands (role-related):
- Computer work; inventory/ordering records (copiers, fax machines, PDF scanners).
- Manual dexterity for lab equipment and sterile techniques.
- Sit/stand for long periods; repetitive motion; lift up to 30 lbs.
- Possible exposure to fumes/chemicals (e.g., formaldehyde, xylene, DAB, alcohol) and biohazards; may handle blood-borne pathogens and reagents.

Required Training:
- Job-specific, safety, and compliance training assigned based on role functions.

Other / Conditions of Employment:
- Periodic travel and some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
