Role Summary
The Lab Tech 1 - Chemistry performs routine laboratory tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions. Responsibilities include preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining accurate records. This role supports the Global Diagnostics division at Zoetis and collaborates with internal veterinarians, medical teams, and other lab personnel to ensure high standards of quality and accuracy in diagnostic services.
Responsibilities
- Prepare biological specimens for testing in departments such as hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, and coagulation.
- Operate high-throughput automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic equipment to test sample types including whole blood, serum, urine, and feces.
- Set up and execute laboratory tests, review results, and release findings in accordance with SOPs.
- Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on analyzers (daily, weekly, monthly, and as needed).
- Perform basic analyzer troubleshooting on one major department analyzer.
- Review and accept daily Quality Control reports and weekly Levey-Jennings charts.
- Handle and store all biological specimens according to SOPs.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
- Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Complete laboratory logs (maintenance, environmental, cleaning) and maintain records (medical, courier logs, manifests).
- Prepare biological specimens for shipment to offsite testing facilities, adhering to DOT standards.
- Receive, store, and log laboratory and office supplies.
- Operate and maintain secondary laboratory equipment (centrifuges, pipettes, heating blocks, slide stainers).
- Follow SOPs and training modules provided by Zoetis Reference Laboratories.
Qualifications
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's degree.
- Required: 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting and experience performing basic laboratory testing or operations.
- Preferred: Proficient knowledge in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Endocrinology, Parasitology, or Cytology.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software.
- IT and LIS experience; comfortable with computer systems and equipment interfaces.
- Team-oriented with excellent collaboration skills; able to work independently.
- Robust organizational and time management abilities.

- Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision; fluent in English.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
