Role Summary

Lab Manager in Small Molecule Discovery Hematology R&D. Responsible for operational management of a dynamic laboratory environment, ensuring seamless laboratory functions and serving as the go-to contact for research staff, facilities management, suppliers, and scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on operational management of a defined set of laboratories, providing a single point of contact for laboratory scientists, facilities management, and safety teams
  • Coordinate network with lab operation teams, scientists, and suppliers; organize supplies; plan preventative and scheduled maintenance with minimal impact to daily operations; ensure facility management requests are completed
  • Negotiate pricing with suppliers for equipment and supplies; manage bulk orders and purchase orders
  • Organize and optimize lab spaces, benches, storage, supplies, and equipment to maintain operational efficiency
  • Maintain laboratory consumable inventories and equipment lists; provide reports to departmental leadership as requested
  • Train and supervise lab support staff to ensure consistent performance
  • Assist scientists, facilities management, safety, and green lab teams to resolve problems and implement actions
  • Provide operational support on projects to improve understanding of business needs and identify process improvements
  • Lead regular lab improvement projects and drive actions as required
  • Assist in lab space planning for new lab space in Kendall Square; support KSQ move
  • Maintain flexibility with working hours as needed; manage Avantor lab support staff day-to-day activities

Qualifications

  • Essential: Degree in biomedical sciences or related disciplines
  • Essential: Knowledge of biological and chemical safety requirements in a laboratory environment
  • Essential: Several years of experience in a laboratory environment, ideally with prior laboratory management responsibility
