Role: Lab Manager (Discovery Biology & Chemistry) – Cambridge site

Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day laboratory operations; ensure safe, efficient, and compliant research environment.
- Coordinate with Facilities, EH&S, IT, Supply Chain/Logistics, vendors, and scientists; act as primary operations point of contact for Discovery labs.
- Maintain equipment/instruments: preventive maintenance, calibrations (as applicable), repairs; partner on lifecycle including new equipment requests, support contracts, and end-of-life/replacement planning.
- Maximize utilization of shared equipment and implement operational standards.
- Own lab inventory/consumables organization with Supply Chain; standardize receiving, stocking, and storage.
- Safety/compliance coordination: support safety compliance activities, training, and onboarding documentation; coordinate incident reporting.
- Cell culture room hygiene scheduling (maintain schedules and task lists).
- Sample & cold storage governance: manage freezers/LN2 inventory and utilization; maintain SOPs; coordinate off-site storage logistics and chain-of-custody expectations.
- New equipment purchasing & SOP development: submit requests, define requirements, obtain vendor quotes (with procurement), plan installation; establish SOPs and user guidance.
- Partner with IT on lab-related digital systems, instrumentation infrastructure, and data workflows.

Qualifications/Experience:
- MS in science/technology with 5+ years industrial experience, or BS with 8+ years.
- Hands-on experience overseeing/operating biology and chemistry lab environments.
- Experience working with EH&S, facility management, IT, Supply Chain, and/or with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Strong communication/interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and follow-through.

Key Skills (required/preferred):
- Experience in biology or chemistry labs.
- Hands-on LIMS and/or BMRAM (or equivalent inventory/lab management system).
- Programming and/or support for robotic workstations/automation.
- Experience with shared instrumentation and multi-team, high-throughput cross-functional lab environments.
- Track record managing teams; operational excellence (scalable routines/SOPs); customer-service mindset; ownership/accountability; compliance and safety mindset.
