The Lab Assistant supports the diagnostics team by performing essential laboratory tasks. Understand and follow ZRL operating procedures and assist with accessioning, sample preparation, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and unpack biological specimens
- Accession integrated and/or manual requisitions against company targets
- Transport samples to relevant lab departments
- Handle and store biological specimens per ZRL SOPs
- Prepare specimens for testing across departments (hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, coagulation)
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace
- Handle and dispose of medical/biohazardous waste per regulatory guidelines
- Complete laboratory logs (maintenance, environmental, cleaning)
- Maintain records (medical records, courier logs/manifests)
- Prepare specimens for shipment to offsite testing (including DOT standards)
- Receive, store, and log lab/office supplies
- Operate and maintain secondary lab equipment (centrifuges, pipettes, heating blocks, slide stainers)
- Follow SOPs and Zoetis Reference Laboratories training modules
- Perform duties with minimal/no oversight
- Assist with training for Lab Assistant I responsibilities
- Complete ad-hoc projects/tasks assigned by management
Required Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years clinical laboratory experience preferred
- Veterinary laboratory experience a plus
