Role Summary

The Scientist is required to possess mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform tasks involving manual work. While supporting personnel are available to assist with material handling and equipment setup, the Kilo Lab Scientist is responsible for overseeing and conducting batch activities. Typically, the Kilo Lab handles processes ranging from laboratory-scale up to 200L vessels. This facility serves as a testing ground for new manufacturing technologies, such as flow chemistry and emerging methodologies, in which the scientists frequently participate.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of chemical processes for drug candidates into the New Brunswick Kilo Lab Facility to support pharmaceutical development.
  • Work hands-on with multidisciplinary teams from the Chemical Synthetic Development group to scale-up processes from the laboratory to the Kilo Lab.
  • Responsible for handling all activities involved in the scale-up of processes with strict adherence to safety, GMP and environmental regulations.
  • Take the lead in coordinating and facilitation the campaign related activities in support of the production of GMP active drug substance that include but are not limited to the equipment selection, raw materials ordering, process safety evaluation, process design, recipe writing, process documentation, cleaning and process assessments.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have a minimum of a BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 5 - 7 years' experience, a MS with 2-4 years' experience or a PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 0- 2 years' experience OR demonstrated hands on experience working on small molecule process scale-up with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Experience with laboratory development/scale-up and/or industrial processing is desired
  • Strong technical skills (chemistry, process development, chemical processing equipment), with a proficient understanding of GMP and safety regulations as preferred.
  • Candidates must possess excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work effectively with multiple assignments
  • Essential to success are the ability to build strong working relationships, to apply cooperation principles and ways of working in a matrix environment, and the ability to effectively manage activities with minimal supervision are essential
