System Ownership
- Technical ownership of SAS 9.4, SAS Viya, R-Studio, Phoenix WinNonLin, PumasAI, etc.
- Lifecycle management of applications to deliver business capabilities and efficiently allocate resources across the technology landscape.
- Financial responsibility for system operational expenses.
- Manage software vendors to ensure SLAs are met and systems are up to date.
- Manage licensing, including budgeting and growth forecasting.
- Facilitate application steering committees to maximize value and improve UX.
- Participate in change control boards and design review committees.
- Bridge business needs and technology constraints to develop the right strategy/solution.
Project Delivery
- Support new application and system deployment projects using SDLC.
- Serve as SME (and sometimes lead) for projects with project managers, technicians, and business analysts.
- Develop and implement technical strategies for validated/qualified computer systems (global enterprise systems).
- Partner with the business to implement next-gen applications and upgrade existing applications.
- Develop solution options based on user requirements (effort and cost estimates).
- Champion internal IT standards and best practices during design/implementation.
- Provide analytical support for complex projects; establish work plans/timelines and coordinate internal/external sources.
- Organize requirements gathering and solution design sessions.
- Develop support plans and ensure smooth turnover to operations.
System Administration
- Manage, administer, configure, and maintain business application operations via SDLC.
- Manage vendors/service providers to meet system support needs.
- Provide technical guidance to peers, contingent staff, and support vendors.
- Communicate system outages, changes, and status to stakeholders.
- Maintain systems in a qualified state by enforcing platform standards aligned with QA and Computer System Validation policy and health authority regulations.
- Administer procedures for validated operations (installation, monitoring, upgrades, backups, recovery).
- Develop reports/scorecards/tools for regular monitoring of system key indicators.
- Provide tier 3 developer support (e.g., root cause analysis; work with SMEs and vendor support).
- Prioritize and support R&D incident/service tickets for owned systems.
- Continuously improve support processes.
- Track, prioritize, and fulfill system enhancement requests.
- Plan, build, deploy, secure, integrate, and support R&D application solutions.
- Work may include out-of-normal hours for IT support/maintenance.
Skills and Attributes (Required/Preferred)
- Decision making, collaboration, agility/problem solving, leadership, strong organization, and written/verbal communication.
- Technical: deep SAS architecture knowledge (SAS Grid, SAS Viya, SAS 9.4); proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows server environments; shell scripting; SQL and connecting SAS to databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata); ETL/data warehousing concepts; user roles/permissions/authentication (LDAP, Active Directory); encryption/data masking/compliance; load balancing/resource management in grid environments; disaster recovery; backup of metadata/configuration; automation with shell scripts/Python/SAS macros; job scheduling tools (cron, LSF, SAS Job Scheduler).
- Project management and time management.
Education and Experience
- BS or greater in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field; or significant experience supporting research systems in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Minimum of 5 yearsβ experience in a technical or business analyst role focused on R&D functional systems and/or IT.
- Experience with computer database management, programming, or software development (Power Apps/Power Automate).
- Experience with Pharma/BioTech R&D systems (e.g., SAS 9.4, SAS Viya, R-Studio, Phoenix WinNonLin, PumasAI).
- Data analysis expertise with technologies such as SQL, Oracle, Excel, Power BI, etc.
- Experience delivering mid-to-large projects (teams of 5β15) on time and within budget.
- General knowledge of scientific principles underlying biopharmaceutical development/manufacturing.
