Intellectual Property Director

Responsibilities

• Support the management and development of Vanda’s patent portfolio
• Coordinate with Vanda legal department to support Vanda’s patent litigation efforts
• Learn something new every day; become conversant in dozens of highly technical topics; develop proficiencies
• Perform other related duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate

Qualifications

• Required: 8+ years’ experience in patent prosecution and portfolio management
• Required: PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering, or other related field
• Required: Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic, and ability to work independently
• Required: Ability to identify underlying issues in complex situations
• Required: Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Required: Ability to juggle multiple priorities, organize time, meet deadlines, and handle highly confidential information with discretion
• Required: Ability to make decisions and justify legal recommendations
• Required: Customer service oriented with a positive attitude
• Required: Willingness to 'roll up your sleeves' and learn every day
• Required: Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
• Preferred: Strong background in pharmaceutical industry preferably at a publicly traded US company
• Preferred: Admission to practice in patent matters before the USPTO
