Your Role:
The Instrumentation and Calibration Engineer provides technical leadership and consultation to Elanco M&Q, serving as a strategic advisor to global sites to define and harmonize calibration standards ensuring manufacturing equipment and automated systems meet precision and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary technical advisor to global manufacturing sites on instrumentation and calibration; provide best-practice guidance for biotech and small molecule equipment.
- Lead development/implementation of harmonized global calibration standards and SOPs across M&Q.
- Act as functional lead for SAP PM calibration modules; define data integrity standards and optimize maintenance plans; ensure GMP preventive maintenance (PM) tasks are completed within established windows.
- Conduct technical audits of site calibration programs for alignment with Elanco global standards, USDA, ISO, FDA, and GMP; ensure NIST traceability and defend programs during inspections.
- Provide high-level technical support for complex instrument/system failures; lead RCA for major calibration deviations and implement CAPAs.
- Identify opportunities to upgrade outdated systems and implement innovative calibration technologies (e.g., paperless calibration, automated testing).
- Travel ~30% domestic/international to support advisory work and audits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 5–8 years instrumentation and calibration experience in biotech/pharma/GMP environment.
- Working knowledge of USDA and FDA requirements for animal health manufacturing.
- Hands-on calibration experience (e.g., multimeters, pressure calibrators, HART).
- Familiarity with process instrumentation/control systems (PLCs, SCADA, DCS).
- Advanced proficiency in SAP PM for maintenance and calibration management.
- Self-starter working independently with minimal direction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years in Animal Health/Pharma/Biotech manufacturing.
- Influence without authority; manage multiple assignments in global matrix environments.
- Problem-solving methodology for complex technical issues within deadlines.
- Understanding of validation, technology transfer, and process validation.
- Exposure to Lean Six Sigma.
