Role Summary

The Immigration Specialist provides U.S. immigration guidance and support to AbbVie’s global pharmaceutical business, managing AbbVie’s U.S. immigration program portfolio in partnership with immigration attorneys and interfacing with internal and outside counsel and stakeholders. Requires extensive hands-on employment-based immigration experience across business non-immigrant and immigrant matters.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain business non-immigrant and immigrant matters in compliance with U.S. immigration laws, regulations and AbbVie policies.
  • Help manage a portfolio of immigration matters to facilitate timely and accurate submissions of government petitions and applications.
  • Advise Human Resources regarding global mobility to enable domestic and global relocations.
  • Manage relationships with AbbVie’s immigration internal and outside counsel.
  • Identify trends, concerns and programmatic needs to enable customized solutions that meet business needs.
  • Advise on matters related to I-9s, I-9 audits, and E-Verify.
  • Stay abreast of changes in laws that affect U.S. immigration sponsorship.
  • Communicate with internal clients regarding business immigration laws.
  • Ensure legal expenditures are in compliance with budgetary and internal guidelines.
  • Manage AbbVie’s immigration data files and prepare/run reports for internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; U.S. paralegal or law degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of U.S. employment-based immigration portfolio management experience, including at least 1 year in a corporate environment.
  • Experience managing full life cycle of PERM, I-140 and adjustment of status matters, including coordination with corporate stakeholders and beneficiaries and managing outside counsel.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining a corporate compliance program (e.g., PAF, PERM audit files and related reporting).
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, strong writing, organizational/analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, be detail-oriented, analyze information, understand client needs, and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
