Role Summary

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist responsible for driving site-wide HSE initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a strong safety culture. Develop and maintain HSE programs across diverse operations, from bioprocessing to warehousing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE procedures and programs in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management.
  • Coordinate and provide HSE training and awareness initiatives across all departments.
  • Champion a Safety First, Quality Always mindset throughout the organization and stay current with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Required: Experience: A minimum of 5 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably cGMP, biotech, or pharmaceutical).
  • Required: Top 2 skills: Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory requirements; Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or similar management systems.
  • Preferred: Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Preferred: Effective communication with leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred: Ability to influence and drive change across cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred: Experience managing waste disposal, recycling, and pollution prevention programs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.

Skills

  • Regulatory knowledge including OSHA, EPA, and related requirements; familiarity with ISO 45001/ISO 14001 or equivalent management systems.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience managing waste disposal, recycling, and pollution prevention programs.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel: Minimal (approximately 5-10% annually), primarily to other Elanco sites within the U.S.
  • Location: Onsite role based in Elwood, KS. Occasional evening and weekend support may be required.
