Role Summary
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist responsible for driving site-wide HSE initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a strong safety culture. Develop and maintain HSE programs across diverse operations, from bioprocessing to warehousing.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSE procedures and programs in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management.
- Coordinate and provide HSE training and awareness initiatives across all departments.
- Champion a Safety First, Quality Always mindset throughout the organization and stay current with industry standards.
Qualifications
- Required: Experience: A minimum of 5 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably cGMP, biotech, or pharmaceutical).
- Required: Top 2 skills: Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory requirements; Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or similar management systems.
- Preferred: Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, or equivalent.
- Preferred: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Preferred: Effective communication with leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
- Preferred: Ability to influence and drive change across cross-functional teams.
- Preferred: Experience managing waste disposal, recycling, and pollution prevention programs.
Education
- Bachelorβs degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
Skills
- Regulatory knowledge including OSHA, EPA, and related requirements; familiarity with ISO 45001/ISO 14001 or equivalent management systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence across cross-functional teams.
- Experience managing waste disposal, recycling, and pollution prevention programs.
Additional Requirements
- Travel: Minimal (approximately 5-10% annually), primarily to other Elanco sites within the U.S.
- Location: Onsite role based in Elwood, KS. Occasional evening and weekend support may be required.
