Role Summary

HSC Biology Associate Scientist in Lilly's Gene Therapy team, located in Boston, MA. You will help invent, characterize, and advance novel genome editing reagents for clinical applications, collaborating across disease areas and platforms to deliver gene editing solutions to patients. This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) with up to 10% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Work with team members to drive forward new gene therapy programs.
  • Perform HSC cell culture experiments and establish new assays to measure gene therapy outcomes both in vitro and in vivo.
  • Establish endpoint assays for in vivo studies for HSC therapies, especially flow cytometry and related endpoints.
  • Work cross functionally to deliver data to the project team within expected timelines.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of scientific work in an electronic notebook.

Qualifications

  • Required: B.S. and/or M.S. in biology or a closely related field with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Required: Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Lilly will not sponsor work authorization or visas for this role.
  • Preferred: Mastery of aseptic cell culture experience on HSCs, including gene therapy experiments (e.g., AAV or LNP).
  • Preferred: Experience isolating cells, nucleic acids and proteins from tissues.
  • Preferred: Experience phenotyping all types of immune cells (HSCs, T cells, B cells, etc.).
  • Preferred: Strong experience in molecular endpoints, including PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, and protein analysis (e.g., Simple Western Jess, ELISA, MSD).
  • Preferred: Familiarity with LNP screening.
  • Preferred: Experience using automation in workflows (e.g., liquid handling).
  • Preferred: Experience planning and implementing experiments independently.
  • Preferred: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Preferred: Strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel up to 10% for conferences or training.
