Histology Technologist I (Wed - Sat, 5:00AM to 3:30PM)

Responsibilities:
- Assist pathology professionals with immunohistochemistry (IHC), specimen processing, embedding, slide preparation, microtomy, and other high-complexity laboratory procedures.
- Perform routine histology tasks: embedding, cutting, H&E staining, and cover slipping.
- Perform high-complexity testing (grossing, processing, IHC staining) using automatic staining systems; perform QC of stained slides.
- Execute laboratory protocols/SOPs; complete training and competency requirements for departmental tasks.
- Maintain specimen diagnostic viability and ensure correct patient labeling by verifying case ID numbers, match blocks, and slides at each processing step; print labels as needed.
- Document work in laboratory logs and the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Maintain equipment in proper working order and notify leadership for maintenance/repairs.
- Identify issues affecting test performance/reporting and take appropriate action.
- Assist with related duties and special projects as required.
Required Qualifications:
- 1+ year IHC/histology lab experience OR 2 years as a Histology Technician Trainee OR 1 year as a Histology Technician Trainee plus completion of an NAACLS-accredited histology program.
- High-complexity requirements: bachelor’s degree in a relevant lab/medical science/technology OR associate degree in laboratory science/medical laboratory technology OR at least 60 semester hours including specified science/chemistry/coursework, plus a clinical laboratory training program approved/accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP; OR at least 3 months documented IHC/histology high-complexity testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- HT/HTL (ASCP) certification eligible.
- QIHC strongly advised.

- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general business Internet use.
