Position Summary
- Lead and oversee all U.S. litigation and investigations across Sanofiβs operations.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for government investigations, internal investigations, regulatory/administrative proceedings, and complex civil litigation; achieve favorable outcomes while managing risk and controlling costs.
- Advise senior management on significant legal risks and help shape enterprise-wide approaches; translate complex matters to non-legal audiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead the U.S. Litigation & Investigations function; set strategy and priorities; accelerate AI/digital use to streamline operations and budget management.
- Provide strategic advice on major matters, including risk assessment and mitigation.
- Oversee a full-spectrum U.S. caseload; ensure high-quality case management, action plans, issue/risk communication, and strategy execution.
- Oversee internal investigations; preserve privilege; align with compliance expectations; partner with Compliance/EBI and People & Culture.
- Select/retain/manage outside counsel; develop case strategy with stakeholders; monitor counsel performance.
- Lead litigation/investigations budget; oversee forecasting/accruals/cost management; manage outside counsel spend.
- Identify trends/systemic risks; implement risk-mitigation process improvements; support policies/procedures/training.
- Manage and develop the team (attorneys and legal professionals); foster a high-performing environment; accountable for outside counsel performance.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school; admitted to at least one State Bar.
- 15+ years litigation and/or government investigations (firm/government/in-house).
- Significant healthcare/pharmaceutical experience, including product liability and False Claims Act (and state equivalents).
- Experience with complex litigation, government investigations, and leading large legal portfolios; managing outside counsel and legal spend.
