Position Summary
- The Head of Clinical Pharmacology works with cross-functional stakeholders across discovery, preclinical development, and clinical development.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in DMPK and classical/quantitative clinical pharmacology.
- Contributes to translational approaches to streamline clinical development and define the optimal dose, route, and regimen.
- Accountable for Clinical Pharmacology aspects of regulatory filings and for presenting results/key messages to internal teams, executive management, health authorities, and external collaborators.
- Mentors junior scientists; has direct management responsibility and helps build Clinical Pharmacology capabilities in the US and China.
Job Responsibilities
- Expand and guide the clinical pharmacology group (FTEs and external vendors).
- Provide oversight of clinical pharmacology strategy across the portfolio; build a culture of model informed drug development (MIDD).
- Manage department budget.
- Contribute to strategic and scientific planning/execution with cross-functional teams.
- Oversee translational strategy development/implementation.
- Oversee analysis/interpretation of PK/PD data; collaborate on nonclinical studies using quantitative methods.
- Oversee clinical pharmacology competitive intelligence analysis.
- Supervise/mentor junior scientists; drive process improvement and career development.
- Interact with external collaborators, board/investors/KOLs/vendors as appropriate.
- Author/oversee regulatory documents/publications and represent function at regulatory interactions.
- Represent Clinical Pharmacology on due diligence teams (as requested).
- Build Clinical Pharmacology capability in China.
- Contribute to implementing Artificial Intelligence to support drug development.
Qualifications
- M.D./Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Pharmacokinetics (or related) OR PharmD with Clinical Pharmacology fellowship.
- 12+ years industry experience in Clinical Pharmacology in a matrix environment.
- Proven ability to manage vendors/stakeholders; strong analytical, regulatory, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Clinical Pharmacology leadership; cross-functional and supervisory experience.
- Clinical Pharmacology experience with small molecules and metabolism.
- In-depth knowledge of global regulatory requirements/guidelines (FDA/EMA/ICH); experience with regulatory interactions and filings.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
Travel Required
- Occasional travel, including to China.
