Head of Clinical Development - JAPAC

Role Summary

The Head of Clinical Development for the JAPAC region leads the clinical development strategy in Japan and China, driving regional development efforts and aligning with regulatory and operational environments to foster innovation and excellence in clinical practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the clinical development strategy for the JAPAC region in alignment with global strategies; translate regional needs into actionable plans.
• Lead the clinical development teams in Japan and China, fostering collaboration and high-performance outcomes; engage with team leaders to maintain a culture of excellence and accountability.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for clinical innovation and expanded market access in JAPAC; maintain relationships with partners to ensure programs are innovative and regionally aligned.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and global standards in clinical development; stay current with regulatory changes and implement best practices.
• Manage budgets and resources to maximize clinical development outcomes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to oversee development, execution, and completion of clinical trials in JAPAC; ensure trials meet scientific and safety standards while advancing strategic objectives.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports to enhance team capabilities and performance.
• Engage with regulatory bodies and strategic partners to advance clinical development initiatives.
• Report regularly to senior leadership on progress, challenges, and strategic advancements; communicate successes and barriers to align regional goals with global strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in clinical trial methodologies and practices.

Qualifications

• Required: A minimum of 15 years of practical clinical development experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including multi-therapeutic area experience; proven experience leading large functions; medical degree preferred; broad knowledge of drug development, clinical operations, and on-market medical affairs; demonstrated competency in AbbVie leadership behaviors, especially in JAPAC.
• Preferred: Strategic thinker with ability to formulate a future vision and build tactical plans; excellent collaborator with cross-functional alignment; strong business/financial acumen and analytical skills; articulate communicator with executive presence.
