Job Description
AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, MA is seeking a GMP Utility Engineer to join the Site Operations Utilities Engineering group. This position supports the operation and improvement of biopharmaceutical water and steam systems, as well as related facilities and utility equipment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as subject matter expert for GMP utilities at ABC, including support for audits, regulatory inspections, internal quality risk management, and alignment with Global Abbvie Engineering.
- Support ongoing operation and maintenance of GMP utilities (procedures, documentation, inspections, PM evaluations) to ensure compliance.
- Provide engineering support for troubleshooting, repair planning, and system reliability improvements.
- Develop/review scopes, estimates, specifications, and standards for utility projects.
- Support equipment installations/modifications: shutdown coordination, contractor oversight, commissioning, and validation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Plan and execute small to medium projects independently; manage multiple concurrent projects (cost/scope/schedule/financial targets).
- Oversee design work of internal/external consultants; create/modify designs.
- Represent engineering on cross-functional teams and corporate task forces; may support staff development/supervision.
Qualifications
- Bachelorβs Degree in Engineering/science/related discipline (desired) or equivalent experience; 5+ years significant engineering and/or operational experience (post-graduate education desired).
- Demonstrated competency within a discipline.
- Strong technical knowledge applying concepts/practices/procedures; judgment on complex problems.
- Interpersonal communication skills; collaborate in fast-paced environments; negotiate/reconcile differences.
- Technical background in healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar (preferred).
- Demonstrated competency with financial systems and fiscal control.
