Purpose:
- Lead at least 3 discovery programs to clinic as Global Therapeutic Research Lead (G-TRL) on the Neuroscience Drug Discovery Unit (NS DDU) Leadership Team.
- Lead at least one or more top priority oligonucleotide projects with substantial clinical/commercial potential and an accelerated path to the clinic.
- Mentor global drug discovery teams to elevate enterprise thinking and capabilities.
- Build and represent a connected view of the project within the Neuroscience therapeutic area strategy and treatment paradigm; align stakeholders across Research, Clinical Development, Commercial, and executive governance committees.
- Create the medicine vision, early asset strategy, and manage external partnerships to accelerate delivery.
- Establish smart, fast, critical-path practices; continuously integrate new strategies and industry ways of working.
- Advise on continuous infusion of new research projects aligned to strategy to generate a steady flow of high-quality INDs.

Accountabilities:
- Lead and manage one or more β€˜Top 10’ drug discovery oligonucleotide projects from target identification through preclinical development.
- Own project strategy with internal stakeholders; contribute to portfolio investment strategy (Inflammation/Immunology).
- Evaluate and prioritize drug candidates using scientific, medical, and commercial considerations.
- Partner with Clinical/Translational teams to refine asset strategy; ensure alignment to therapeutic area and commercial value.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to global project teams and mentor future/junior project leads.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., DMPK, Pharmaceutical Sciences) and externally to drive delivery.
- Provide strategic, process, and operational leadership for Top 10 delivery; foster innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Become a leading scientific expert; oversee experiment design, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Stay current on drug discovery advancements and emerging technologies; apply insights to enhance strategy.
- Build stakeholder relationships (academia, research orgs, industry partners) and serve on external governance committees.
- Represent Takeda externally for Neuroscience Drug Discovery Unit; evaluate external opportunities.

Education & Competencies:
- Advanced degree in health/life sciences (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
- 10–12+ years industry expertise in Immunology/Inflammation and 10–12+ years global management experience with matrix teams.
- Extensive experience leading drug discovery teams and managing drug discovery/development projects (preferably pharma/biotech; gastroenterology/inflammation).
- Deep understanding of drug discovery (target identification, hit-to-lead optimization, preclinical development; remove roadblocks).
- Proven track record leading multiple projects (ideally 5+), from discovery to Candidate Nomination or beyond; major role in 3+ INDs.
- Delivered clinical development assets across multiple modalities (e.g., small molecule, biologics, cell therapies, ADC).
- Inclusive leadership; solutions-oriented; strong business acumen and understanding of regulatory/commercial considerations.
- Exceptional communication/presentation skills; strong problem-solving and data-driven decision making.
- Proven ability to build/maintain collaborative internal/external relationships and strategic partnerships.
