Clinical Research and Development
Purpose:
- Lead multiple discovery-to-clinic programs as the Global Therapeutic Research Lead (G-TRL) within the Neuroscience Drug Discovery Unit (NS DDU) Leadership Team.
- Lead at least one or more top-priority small molecule projects with an accelerated path to the clinic.
- Provide mentorship and raise enterprise thinking/capabilities across global Research.
- Own the connected project view within the Neuroscience therapeutic area strategy and represent core expertise across Research, Clinical Development, Commercial, and executive governance.
- Create the medicine vision, early asset strategy, and manage external partnerships to accelerate delivery.
- Establish smart, fast, critical-path practices and advise on continuous infusion of new strategy-aligned research projects to generate a sustainable flow of INDs.

Accountabilities:
- Lead and manage one or more β€œTop 10” drug discovery molecule projects from target identification through preclinical development.
- Own project strategy with internal stakeholders; advise on portfolio investment (Inflammation/Immunology) including which projects become Top 10.
- Evaluate and prioritize drug candidates using scientific, medical, and commercial criteria.
- Partner with Clinical/Translational teams to refine asset strategy and ensure alignment to therapeutic area/clinical development and commercial value.
- Mentor global teams and future/junior project leads; foster innovation and scientific excellence.
- Oversee experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation to support decisions and optimize discovery.
- Stay current on drug discovery advancements, technologies, and trends; build external and academic/industry stakeholder relationships.
- Represent the Neuroscience Drug Discovery Unit externally and evaluate external opportunities.

Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral):
- Advanced degree in health or life sciences (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
- 10–12+ years industry expertise in Immunology/Inflammation and 10–12+ years global management experience with matrix teams.
- Extensive experience leading drug discovery teams and drug discovery/development projects (pharma/biotech preferred) relevant to gastroenterology/inflammation.
- Deep knowledge of target identification, hit-to-lead optimization, and preclinical development; proven roadblock removal.
- Track record leading multiple discovery projects (ideally 5+); major role in 3+ INDs.
- Experience delivering clinical development assets (small molecules) and insight into oligonucleotide and biologic modalities.
- Inclusive leadership, strong business acumen, exceptional communication/presentation, data-driven decision-making, and proven partnership-building.
