Role Summary

Global Public Affairs Head, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) and Cross Rare Diagnostic Initiatives. Location: Cambridge, MA / Morristown, NJ / Washington, DC. The role serves as a PA expert to the Rare Diseases franchise, working with Global brand teams and Global Project Team to develop global public affairs strategies, collaborating with Local PA teams to ensure relevance and execution, and supporting cross-functional partners to advance rare diagnostic initiatives. This position also serves as deputy to the Head of Global Public Affairs Rare Diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Drive implementation of a robust Global PA strategy to achieve the franchise vision in prioritized markets, supporting high-priority objectives and market shaping for product launches and uptake.
  • Address unmet patient needs through scientific exchanges, evidence generation, community engagement, advocacy development, policy shaping, and other high-impact PA initiatives; focus on patient access to treatment and elevated care goals.
  • Manage relationships with patient groups and stakeholders to ensure the patient voice informs business strategy.
  • Incorporate external community input into programs in development or lifecycle improvements.
  • Cultivate strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships to align with franchise priorities and company position.
  • Monitor trends and conduct policy analyses; communicate implications to franchise leadership.
  • Serve as strategic advisor and support TA/franchise Heads with external engagements to advance objectives and Sanofi’s reputation.
  • Develop and execute external engagement strategies for senior rare disease leadership to demonstrate leadership in rare diseases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners within GBT and GPT to input into broader strategy, develop high-impact public affairs strategies, and build cross-functional support for execution (e.g., scientific exchange, PAGs, multi-stakeholder partnerships, evidence generation).
  • Coordinate with US and Global Corporate Affairs resources to secure alignment and a unified voice.
  • Work with local PA teams to adapt global strategies to local realities and tools.
  • Lead in selected markets on policy and advocacy plans to advance newborn screening and other rare diagnostic initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional partners.
  • Participate in internal medical task forces and collaborate with the medical rare diagnostics team on strategic planning and tool development.
  • Engage in multi-stakeholder partnerships and external engagement plans to achieve rare diagnostic policy objectives.
  • Report to the Head, Global Public Affairs, Rare Diseases.

Qualifications

  • Experience in market shaping to support product launches and policy/advocacy strategies; proven responsibilities in industry public affairs.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (e.g., political science, law, economics, medicine, or pharmacy).
  • Post-graduate degree in public health or health care field, or Doctorate/MD/PhD/PharmD/MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience across Public Affairs; Market Access; Policy or Government Affairs with policy-shaping responsibilities; other pharma experience acceptable.
  • Strong collaboration across Local and Global teams and experience working in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g., Medical, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Communications).
  • Up to 30% travel may be required.

  • Experience developing and cultivating relationships with patient organizations and strategic partners; knowledge of key stakeholder groups including multi-lateral institutions and trade associations.
  • Strong written and oral communication; comfortable operating in fast-paced and ambiguous settings.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MD, PhD, PharmD, MBA) preferred.
