Brief Description
- Reporting to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Global Privacy Officer will develop, implement, and continuously enhance a global privacy program aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Leads a team of privacy professionals and partners with Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy, Finance, IT, ERM, HR, Legal, and other stakeholders to support company objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead a team of privacy professionals by:
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining a global privacy program.
- Serving as a key point of contact for privacy authorities in the US, UK, and EU.
- Proactively identifying privacy risk and designing effective mitigation strategies.
- Oversee data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), privacy risk assessments, and third-party vendor evaluations; design mitigation strategies as necessary.
- Collect and analyze data to detect emerging risk areas, deficient controls, or non-compliance; prepare reports/dashboards for Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy and key stakeholders.
- Draft global privacy policies; design and deliver global privacy training for employees, contractors, and partners; lead investigations and responses to data breaches and privacy incidents, including regulatory reporting and remediation as needed.
- Promote a privacy-first culture through ongoing education and engagement.
- Manage DSAR processes, consent management, and individual rights under GDPR and other laws.
- Lead cross-functional efforts to ensure compliance across R&D, clinical trials, marketing, HR, and digital platforms.
- Serve as a key member of the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy lead team; coordinate to advance department goals and consistency across the company.
- Stay informed on new laws, regulations, and industry trends and ensure updates are reflected in the global privacy program.
Requirements / Qualifications
- 10β12 years of relevant pharmaceutical privacy experience in-house; expertise managing a global privacy program for a multinational organization.
- Law degree preferred (not required).
- Deep understanding of global privacy regulations and practical application.
- Experience managing privacy incidents and/or data breach.
- Solid judgment, business acumen, and understanding of multinational pharmaceutical business operations.
- Solid understanding of privacy laws/regulations for the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry (US and internationally), including patient and employee data requirements.
- Experience working across multiple functions and geographies; responsive with a customer service orientation.
- Excellent oral and written communication; self-motivated; able to handle heavy workload; team player.
- Able to work accurately with urgency in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills (diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration); able to interface effectively across all levels and with external parties; adaptable across cultures.
- Effective manager who drives enthusiasm, creativity, collaboration, and a positive team environment.
- Travel required.
