Role Summary

AstraZeneca seeks a Global Medical Head, Obesity to lead medical affairs strategy for obesity and weight management. This role shapes disease-area strategy, drives launches and life-cycle management, and guides evidence generation, education, and publication while engaging externally to reinforce scientific leadership. The position reports to the Medical Head of Weight Management and T2D within CVRM and leads a global team of medical professionals to build world-class obesity capability and accelerate patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Leadership: Build and lead the global CVRM obesity team, partnering with internal and external collaborators
  • Strategic Vision and Direction: Develop, integrate, and implement global strategic medical plans
  • External Scientific Engagement: Set and drive an external engagement agenda, forming strategic alliances and partnerships
  • Launch, Performance and Life-cycle Management: Drive innovation, establish KPIs, and deliver strategic medical plans for current and future needs

Qualifications

  • Doctoral level degree (MD, PhD, and/or PharmD)
  • 7–10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally in Medical Affairs, at country and global/regional levels
  • Background/expertise in the obesity therapy area
  • Proven global/regional leadership with a track record of building high-performance teams
  • Experience delivering results in a sophisticated matrix environment, building capabilities and leading large-scale medical initiatives
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to distill large amounts of information into key messages and actions
  • Ability to build internal and external networks across geographies and cultures; enterprise leader mentality
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership; strong oral and written communication skills and ability to deliver executive presentations
  • Understanding of the evolving medical space, including collaborators and future trends

Education

  • Doctoral level degree (MD, PhD, and/or PharmD)

Additional Requirements

  • In-person collaboration with a flexible approach to office presence; typically three days per week in the office
