Role Summary

Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) Associate Director will shape and execute HEOR strategies that optimize the value proposition for Vertexโ€™s CF and early pipeline assets through each stage of development, including launch and post-launch phases. The role reports to the Executive Director HEOR, CF and Early Pipeline and is based in Bostonโ€™s Seaport District (hybrid-eligible).

Responsibilities

  • Leads execution of complex HEOR evidence generation studies, including prospective and retrospective observational studies, COA strategy, PRO measure development and validation, systematic literature reviews, cost-effectiveness analyses, budget impact models, and indirect treatment comparisons to support asset value.
  • Effectively leads external research partners to ensure robust scientific methods are applied to study design and execution, and oversees study design, data analysis, and quality of evidence; manages projects to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Collaborates with medical communications teams on publication strategy to disseminate HEOR evidence timely and with maximum impact.
  • Partners with Global Pricing and Market Access to support development of product value proposition and co-lead global launch deliverables (e.g., global value dossier).

Skills

  • Strong track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Background in clinical outcome assessment (COA) measurement strategy; experience in PRO development/validation and qualitative research methodology
  • Technical expertise in HEOR with ability to formulate and lead creative research projects; hands-on experience with prospective and site-based research
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Excellent project and people management skills to oversee vendors and internal teams, coordinating with cross-functional partners to meet timelines and budgets
  • Ability to apply knowledge of the US healthcare system, global health technology appraisal requirements, and clinical development to identify evidence gaps and generate strategies
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment of the pharmaceutical industry with a history of compliant and ethical conduct

Education

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, Master's, MPH, or PharmD) in a relevant discipline
  • Typically requires 8+ years of relevant experience in a Global HEOR role within a pharmaceutical/biotech setting, or equivalent
