Global Head of Technology & Architecture in Biomedical Research (BR)

Responsibilities:
- Deliver research informatics to accelerate discovery and improve researcher user experience.
- Evolve BR technology capabilities and architecture; make buy/build decisions aligned with DDIT for harmonized, scalable, end-to-end approaches.
- Lead strategy, design, and evolution of next-generation Data & AI Platforms; define multi-year vision/roadmap aligned with scientific priorities and digital AI strategy.
- Contribute to BRโs AI-driven drug discovery digital strategy (Data Science, GenAI, ML); support cross-divisional initiatives to ensure compatibility across Research-Development and Commercial.
- Drive the โlab of the futureโ initiative from an informatics perspective with lab equipment/automation experts.
- Collaborate with Novartis DDIT and BR Data Science to execute digital/AI strategy and enable an AI-enabled research organization.
- Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., agentic workflows, vector databases, GPU infrastructure, lab digitalization, quantum computing); lead platform architecture reviews and technology selection.
- Provide strategic technology input to research leadership; advise top management.
- Partner with DDIT to deploy enterprise solutions where possible; bridge engineering, scientists, data science, and IT security/compliance/infrastructure.
- Grow and lead a diverse, high-performing platform team (engineers, domain specialists, architects, lab technologists).
Qualifications / Skills:
- PhD or masterโs in CS/Data Science/AI/computational biology/cheminformatics or related; tech + life sciences background strongly preferred.
- 12+ years in platform engineering/architecture/infrastructure/data/cloud/research lab tech or ML infrastructure; 8+ years in leadership.
- Strong AI/ML workflows (LLMs, training/serving, monitoring, MLOps, GPU infrastructure).
- Cloud-native architectures, microservices, APIs, Kubernetes, IaC, observability, HPC.
- Familiarity with scientific workflows and data modalities (omics, imaging, real-world, lab-generated).
- Ability to translate research/business needs into platform capabilities and communicate technical constraints.
- Proven leadership in matrixed, global environments; stakeholder influence and strong communication.
Compensation (as stated): Expected salary $236,600โ$439,400/year; performance-based cash incentive; potential eligibility for annual equity awards; comprehensive benefits and time off for US-eligible employees.
