Role Summary

The Global Head of Field Medical Excellence leads global Field Medical capability, performance optimization, and innovation. They transform how Sanofi engages with healthcare providers and scientific communities, setting world-class standards and modernizing engagement models to enable Field Medical teams to act as strategic scientific leaders with global impact. They partner with Global and Country Medical GBUs, R&D, and cross-functional teams to drive insight-driven, omnichannel medical engagement focused on impact and future-readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the global Field Medical Excellence strategy aligned with Medical GBU enterprise priorities
  • Direct and oversee enterprise-wide investment in Field Medical capability development and digital transformation with cross-functional partners
  • Shape the evolution of MSL roles toward scientific consultancy, health system partnership, and real-world insights leadership
  • Lead enterprise-wide transformation initiatives to modernize field-based scientific engagement across therapeutic areas and regions
  • Serve as executive sponsor for Field Medical governance forums and represent Field Excellence in enterprise transformation programs
  • Build strong partnerships with global, regional, and country medical leaders to ensure global frameworks are locally relevant and adopted
  • Partner with GBU medical leaders to advance Field Medical Excellence initiatives and therapeutic area strategies
  • Enable two-way knowledge exchange, scale local innovations to the global level, and adapt global strategies to local needs
  • Collaborate with Scientific Communications, Evidence Generation, Innovation, R&D, Commercial, and GTMC for seamless integration
  • Embed Field Medical expertise into cross-functional programs (IEGP, launch readiness, lifecycle management, customer experience, therapy area planning)
  • Establish governance models balancing global standards with regional flexibility and therapeutic area needs
  • Design global Field Medical competency models, learning pathways, certification frameworks, and onboarding standards
  • Build leadership pipelines and succession strategies for critical medical field roles across regions
  • Advance capabilities in scientific exchange, cross-functional collaboration, policy awareness, and health systems engagement
  • Partner with Talent & Learning to create best-in-industry development programs
  • Define global standards, platforms, and governance for scientific insight capture, analysis, and dissemination
  • Create closed-loop systems linking field insights to enterprise decisions, lifecycle planning, and evidence strategies
  • Translate insights into strategic action with Medical GBUs, Evidence Generation, R&D, and Commercial
  • Establish Field Medical as a source of competitive intelligence and market understanding
  • Drive adoption of analytics and AI to enhance insight quality and speed-to-action with Digital teams
  • Partner with Medical Innovation and Digital to pilot emerging technologies in field settings
  • Lead transformation toward AI-enabled engagement models and implement next-generation digital tools to optimize field effectiveness
  • Build digital fluency across Field Medical for future readiness
  • Develop global KPIs to measure field value, quality, insight contribution, and scientific impact
  • Establish governance frameworks and standards to ensure consistency, compliance, and quality
  • Collaborate with GTMC to build real-time dashboards and predictive performance models
  • Drive continuous improvement through benchmarking and analytics
  • Ensure Field Medical activities comply with regulatory, ethical, and compliance requirements
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global Field Medical Excellence team; foster scientific rigor and continuous learning
  • Act as change agent to inspire global and regional teams to adopt new ways of working
  • Travel approximately 50% to fulfill role requirements

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in Medical Affairs, with significant Field Medical Leadership and Medical Excellence roles
  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent preferred)
  • Proven track record transforming MSL organizations or leading global field capability frameworks at scale
  • Experience implementing digital tools, AI-enabled solutions, and omnichannel engagement in medical functions
  • Business acumen with experience in strategic investment decisions and resource optimization
  • Strong experience in global matrix environments with regional and country medical organizations

Education

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent preferred)
