Role Summary
Global Clinical Head, Respiratory is responsible for specialist physician management expertise and services through global process management, interfacing with external organizations within a geographical area. The role contributes to regional physician strategy and provides input to the global clinical development strategy from a physician perspective. It also leads, guides, and develops a team of physicians to ensure objectives are met and regulations are complied with, while managing performance and succession planning.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist Physician Management expertise and services through global process management and interface activities with external organizations within a geographical area
- Contribute significantly to the regional Physician strategy
- Provide input to the global clinical development strategy from a Physician perspective
- Lead, guide, evaluate, and develop the team of Physicians to meet objectives and comply with regulations
- Performance manage senior managers or identify development opportunities for direct reports and plan for succession
- Lead or oversee initiatives to improve quality, integrity of information interpretation, cost, or time; develop new methodologies or processes for business benefit
- Accountable for the overall clinical, scientific, and value content within the Clinical Project team
- People management: approximate total direct/indirect reports 50+; global remit across multiple countries
Qualifications
- Required: Medical degree; Professional qualification; Mastery of Physician area with ability to lead cross-functional working groups and teams; Proven leadership promoting, motivating, and empowering others to achieve objectives; Significant understanding of the drug development and commercialization process from development to lifecycle management; Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets, and project initiatives in global/regional environments; Experience leading and developing teams in a global environment; Conceptual, analytical, and strategic thinking; Ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully while maintaining positive relationships
- Preferred: PhD in scientific discipline; Expert reputation within the industry; Extensive knowledge of latest technical and regulatory developments; Operational expertise in risk management and contingency planning; Familiarity with latest research and thinking; Effective problem and conflict resolution skills; Excellent knowledge of AstraZeneca policies, procedures, and guidelines
