Role Summary

The Global Category Manager (GCM) – Analytical Services at the Associate Director level plans and leads category projects for a clearly defined sub-category or group of sub-categories with a total spend value under USD 60M and develops sub-category strategies as part of the wider Category Strategy. The GCM manages a portion of the overall category savings target and leads category projects spanning sourcing, demand management and process re-engineering, while managing sub-category specific supplier performance and progress activities to meet global procurement targets. Location: Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the R&D Procurement Pharmaceutical Sciences Procurement Lead and collaborate with the R&D Procurement, Pharmaceutical Sciences Procurement Team; provide financial and business analysis (e.g., data mining of procurement and financial systems, output analysis and interpretation) and support global market intelligence as the focal point for category expertise to the global business and procurement community.
  • Lead procurement, sourcing, outsourcing, purchasing of Compliance Services categories (including pharmacovigilance services); support Takeda’s R&D organization and lead global analytical services and testing categories related to Pharmaceutical Sciences manufacturing.
  • Lead competitive procurement, supplier negotiations and contracting through to completion; lead contract lifecycle management, including Master Services Agreements (MSAs), amendments to MSAs, and Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Support Global Procurement Leadership in developing formalized Category Management organization structures and category management methods; work with procurement and partners on a global basis to ensure these are implemented.
  • Collaborate with R&D Finance and Global Procurement Finance to apply Takeda’s savings guidelines and report P&L cost savings and cost avoidance.
  • Ensure appropriate Supplier Relationship Management efforts are implemented; the objective is to ensure performance delivery, continuous improvement and access to innovation from supplier arrangements to achieve value contribution targets on a global basis.
  • Apply rigorous Category Management tools, systems and techniques; provide benefits (operational and financial) following the agreed business goals. Take personal ownership of complex supplier arrangements and provide expertise for other supply and commercial arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Required: Minimum of 11 years of experience and 5+ years in-depth strategic and operational procurement experience with a solid working knowledge of category management.
  • Required: 5+ years overall business experience, including working within a regulated industry.
  • Required: Management of project team support to create material value across multiple categories.
  • Required: Direct experience managing category management projects and development of sourcing strategies.
  • Required: Change management and process improvement skills with direct experience delivering business processes.
  • Preferred: Post graduate business-related qualification.
  • Preferred: Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Biotechnology, CRO or GMP supplier experience is preferred.
  • Preferred: Experience with enterprise systems (SAP, Oracle) and Procurement / procure-to-pay tools such as (e.g., Ariba, Emptoris, SAP, Cirtuo) is preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree minimum.

Additional Requirements

  • Global travel up to 10%.
  • Hybrid role with an in-office expectation of at least 8 days per month; candidates must be within a commutable distance to the Cambridge, MA offices.
