Role Summary

Global Category Associate Director - Construction

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Global Category Lead for Construction procurement, reporting to the Business Partner Lead, Capital Construction and Equipment.
  • Lead category strategy for Construction; spearhead initiatives to define partnership strategies, oversee business planning and governance, and unlock innovation and value realization across Amgen’s US & Global construction and facility footprints.
  • Foster collaboration, enable enterprise-wide initiatives, and champion change to position Global Procurement as a strategic value driver within the organization.
  • Trusted Advisor & Market Expert: Deliver expert insights into market dynamics, supplier capabilities, and best practices; translate insights into actionable category strategies that support business growth and go-to-market execution.
  • Strategic Partnership & Stakeholder Alignment: Forge strong relationships with partners across Global Engineering to align business priorities with Construction Services strategies.
  • Category Strategy Development: Design and implement category strategies aligned with business objectives; collaborate with Business Partner Leads, Strategic Sourcing leads, and Procurement CoE.
  • Supplier-Enabled Innovation: Co-create solutions with suppliers to drive innovation that accelerates objectives and enhances value across speed, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Procurement Expertise & Business Enablement: Provide deep Construction Procurement expertise to advance growth, efficiency, and contractual rigor.
  • Value Generation & Financial Stewardship: Collaborate with Finance to capture and quantify value; influence budgeting and project controls to improve category impact.
  • Strategic Initiative Promotion: Drive adoption of procurement-led initiatives and ensure integration across collaborators, suppliers, end users, and partners.
  • Performance & Business Alignment: Align procurement performance with enterprise goals; implement initiatives designed by Category Leads with measurable impact.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Doctorate degree and 3 years of Capital Construction procurement, business partnering, and/or related experience
    • Or Master’s degree and 5 years of Capital Construction procurement, business partnering, and/or related experience
    • Or Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of Capital Construction procurement, business partnering, and/or related experience
    • Or Associate’s degree and 12 years of Capital Construction procurement, business partnering, and/or related experience
    • Or High school diploma / GED and 14 years of Capital Construction procurement, business partnering, and/or related experience
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience leading Construction Procurement end-to-end with deep capital construction industry knowledge
    • Background in Construction Procurement within Biotech or Pharma with regulatory/compliance understanding
    • Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) or significant experience in Capital Construction
    • Expertise in Capital Construction Contracting and advanced Sourcing Excellence practices
    • Strong analytical approach with performance measurement, value tracking, and financial reporting
    • Ability to lead, inspire, and align global, matrixed teams; drive cross-functional initiatives and represent the category in executive forums
    • Change management skills to champion complex Procurement strategies across ecosystems
    • Ability to distill objectives into actionable category strategies and embed supplier-enabled innovation in business strategy
    • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills; data-driven decision-making
