Role Summary

Champions Oncology is seeking a high-impact General Manager to lead our Data Business — a rapidly growing unit leveraging the company’s proprietary patient-derived models, clinical data, and AI/ML-enabled analytics to accelerate oncology drug development. This leader will own the end-to-end P&L, shaping and executing a vision that transforms Champions’ data assets into a scalable, differentiated business that drives sustainable growth and industry leadership.

The ideal candidate brings a blend of entrepreneurial drive, commercial excellence, and cross-functional leadership, capable of steering a complex business at the intersection of life sciences, data, and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
Develop, refine, and execute the long-term strategy for Champions’ data platform, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and market dynamics.
  • Define and communicate a compelling value proposition for Champions’ data offerings across biopharma, research, and AI/tech-enabled partners.
  • Own business unit P&L — driving top-line growth, optimizing cost structure, and achieving profitability milestones.
  • Commercial Execution
Build, coach, and lead a high-performing commercial team (including business development and marketing) to achieve aggressive revenue targets.
  • Design and implement go-to-market plans — including customer segmentation, pricing strategy, and partnership structures — to accelerate adoption and recurring revenue.
  • Personally engage with key biopharma executives, data scientists, and innovation teams to close high-value deals and establish long-term partnerships.
  • Product & Market Development
Shape product strategy by partnering with R&D, data science, and technology teams to continuously evolve offerings based on market feedback and emerging needs.
  • Once a beachhead in Oncology is established, identify and prioritize adjacent verticals (Cardiovascular, Infectious Disease, Dermatology, etc.) and establish a roadmap for diversification beyond oncology.
  • Develop ecosystem partnerships (AI/ML platforms, CROs, translational research groups, academic consortia) to enhance product utility and differentiation.
  • Operational & Organizational Leadership
Establish clear KPIs, dashboards, and operating rhythms for the business; drive accountability through data-driven decision-making.
  • Champion operational excellence across sales, marketing, data delivery, and customer success — ensuring repeatability and scalability.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, customer-centricity, and performance across the team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the primary voice of the Data Business to the Champions executive team and Board, providing market insights, forecasts, and investment recommendations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with corporate leadership to unlock synergies across business units.
  • Represent Champions at key industry events, panels, and consortia to elevate brand visibility and thought leadership.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in life sciences, precision medicine, bioinformatics, or data/AI-driven business development.
  • Proven record of leading commercial growth in a data, platform, or services business — ideally within oncology or precision medicine.
  • Skills & Attributes
Exceptional strategic and analytical thinker — able to translate complex market signals into clear business priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams that deliver measurable commercial and operational outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of the biopharma ecosystem — including discovery, translational, and clinical workflows.
  • Strong executive presence, communication, and negotiation skills; comfortable engaging C-suite and scientific audiences alike.
  • Entrepreneurial bias for action with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Year-over-year revenue growth and gross margin expansion.
  • Volume and value of strategic partnerships executed.
  • Customer acquisition, retention, and satisfaction metrics.
  • Expansion into new therapeutic areas and customer segments.
  • Talent retention and organizational health within the Data Business unit.
