Role Summary

Formulation Scientist at Perrigo. Provide nutritional technical support to the Pilot Plant and factories to meet operational requirements, including manufacturing documentation, theoretical calculations, and change management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare prototype and/or master formulas and associated technical documentation that comply with nutritional, regulatory, and legal requirements and meet commercial objectives.
  • Prepare Pilot Plant and/or Plant Trial technical documentation for necessary trial work.
  • Conduct periodic data reviews of new and existing finished products to ensure compliance with nutritional requirements throughout shelf life; use statistical principles to assess and recommend shelf life and extensions; provide concise written reports.
  • Provide nutritional technical support to factories including change management, formula fits, theoretical assessments, batch adjustments, and inventory management of raw materials to minimize waste.
  • Prepare new ingredients such as vitamin and/or mineral premixes and their specifications for new and/or existing formulas; periodically review existing raw material data for changes.
  • Provide timely responses to retailer and customer requests; support formulation Organic audit requirements for factories.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to establish and provide accountability for project timelines, roadblocks, and critical steps.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: BS in Science with a strong foundation in nutrition, manufacturing, algebra, and chemistry.
  • Preferred: BS in Food Science, Nutrition, or related degree with at least two years or relevant professional experience; previous formulation experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and competency in other Office applications. Experience in SAP, SLIM, Ensur, Open Text, DOE and statistical applications preferred but not required.
  • Ability to review and comprehend implications of regulations for different markets (FDA, CODEX, EFSA, HC, etc.).
  • Highly focused with superior accuracy and attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of product development processes from prototype to commercialization.
  • Ability to work independently in a result-driven, high-paced dynamic environment; willingness to switch gears and align quickly on emerging priorities.
