Role: Executive Medical Director overseeing Phase 1 ophthalmology clinical trials, primarily for retinal diseases such as wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema. Responsibilities include leading study design, safety oversight, data analysis, and clinical readouts; managing cross-functional teams (clinical operations, biometrics, regulatory, CMC); developing biomarker strategies; authoring regulatory documents; and engaging with external stakeholders. Qualifications: Medical degree (MD), ideally with ophthalmology residency and retina subspecialty; 10+ years of clinical ophthalmology research experience in biopharma; expertise in Phase 1 trials, gene therapy, and regulatory submissions; knowledge of ICH-GCP and FDA guidelines; excellent communication skills. High-value: focus on ophthalmology, gene therapy, early-phase clinical development, biomarker integration, and regulatory interactions. Collaboration/reporting: reports to CMO, dotted line to SVP Research & Early-Stage Product Development. Work setup: travel up to 20%; physical activity includes sedentary work typical of office settings.
