Role Summary

Executive Director of Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) will provide leadership for developing strategic plans and execution for ~$3B spend partnering with Amgen’s Operations organization and providing sourcing support for Manufacturing categories across all functions. Responsible for delivering savings targets and value capture through strategic category deployment, engagement in company-wide productivity program, and relationship management. It is global responsibility for leading sourcing staff based on critical business sites. The role serves as a strategic leader and an innovative problem solver affecting change and must think and act globally to lead and collaborate effectively on a cross-functional basis. Align global functions through to manufacturing sites to maximize achievement of sourcing objectives and continuity of supply to position sourcing as a competitive advantage for the company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business engagement with Executives and other stakeholders across OPS as well as directing the activities across 8 core manufacturing & capital categories through a team of approximately 48 sourcing professionals; categories include Raw Materials, Devices, Distribution, Packaging & Containers, Contract Manufacturing, Construction, Equipment and Facilities Management.
  • Provide strategic vision for the team that is aligned with the broader vision of GSS, which is to enable Amgen Strategy
  • Frame and drive productivity agenda linked to business strategy by leading team to leverage market insights and functional expertise in partnership with business
  • Drive innovation, ensure performance, and manage risks through supplier relationship management program integrated with category strategies
  • Integrate Supplier Diversity and Sustainability into category strategies
  • Continually assess the appropriate organizational structure and help prioritize resources and strategic priorities for the team to be engaging in
  • Engage in governance forums both at the business function level as well as initiative level
  • Drive results and create a sense of urgency through program management
  • Recruit and develop talent enabling staff to achieve their career goals
  • Develop and nurture productive relationships with both business partners and suppliers
  • Partner with GSS Leadership peers to evolve the organization as well as the culture that is welcoming to stakeholders and rewarding to staff
  • Ensure sustained execution of progressive global sourcing strategies, policies, and procedures by understanding the strategic shifts of the company as well as supply markets

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Doctorate degree & 6 years of sourcing experience OR
    • Master’s degree & 10 years of sourcing experience OR
    • Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of sourcing experience AND
    • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 10 years of experience in Sourcing functions or significant roles in business operations of a publicly held company with revenues of more than $10 billion and/or a spend base of at least $3 billion
    • A bachelor’s degree in business / finance or related field
    • Transformed the service delivery model at an organization and/or led through a transformation effort
    • Experience and thought leadership in maximizing productivity through use of innovative and progressive methods, as well as experience in navigating varying levels of change in a large corporate or multinational environment
    • Sourcing experience in Manufacturing preferred
    • Experience with large group leadership of a global organization
    • Experienced professional who functions well in a fast-paced, results-oriented, data-driven environment where collaboration and teamwork are critical
    • Be adaptable in approach and comfortable leading a geographically dispersed team
    • Interpersonal skills, teamwork ability, analytical and organizational skills
    • Executive level written, presentation and communication skills
