Position Summary:
- Lead early discovery portfolio and external strategic alliances combining drug discovery approaches with mechanisms of immune reset, tissue repair, and cardio-specific delivery.
- Develop discovery strategies within the ICV TRC and across BMS expertise in high throughput biology, chemistry, and computational sciences.
- Evaluate external immunology/cardiovascular opportunities and lead development/management of collaborations from early target discovery through IND submission.
- Lead discovery biology programs from target identification/validation through lead optimization and into clinical development.
- Partner with internal and external groups (e.g., CROs, academic/biotech and industrial collaborators) to deliver a pipeline of new target molecules; publish and present externally.

Position Responsibilities (Executive Director):
- Apply leading-edge drug discovery principles to lead highly complex, multidisciplinary projects with external organizations.
- Provide strategic and functional guidance as a subject matter expert in immunology and cardiovascular diseases/drug development.
- Champion and advance drug discovery programs aligned to strategic goals.
- Recommend expansion or curtailment of programs based on experimental results/scientific information.
- Deliver results impacting company performance (strategic, financial, operational).
- Lead strategic collaborations within and outside the company to drive long-term value.
- Coach and provide feedback/mentorship to develop team members.
- Maintain contributions to scientific literature via publishing/presentations/patents.
- Systematically identify and validate novel targets and progress drug discovery efforts in immunology and cardiovascular disease.
- Develop new programs by combining cutting-edge technologies, drug discovery approaches, and therapeutic area expertise.
- Participate in and help lead external collaborations with academic and biotechnology groups.
- Identify and champion collaboration opportunities across BMS expertise.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Basic:
- Master’s degree with 20+ years academic and/or industry experience; OR
- Ph.D. (or equivalent advanced Life Sciences degree) with 15+ years academic/industry experience; 10+ years leadership experience preferred.
- Preferred:
- 15+ years (ideally industry) and 10+ years leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success in immunology and/or cardiovascular drug discovery; target validation using multiple approaches; high-throughput biology and drug discovery.
- Broad immunology/cardiovascular biology knowledge and ability to rapidly learn new expertise.
- Experience leading diverse scientific programs and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead directly across internal and external indirect relationships.
- Excellent communication; strong interpersonal, management, and mentorship skills; comfort managing across diverse expertise/cultures.
- Ability to challenge status quo and drive others’ success.
