Role Summary

As the Executive Medical Director for Early Clinical Development in Immunology, you will provide scientific and strategic leadership while overseeing Early Development asset-specific programs within the MSIDU. You will manage 2-5 programs, focusing on First-in-Human, First-in-Patient, and Proof of Biology, with potential to evolve into pivotal global regulatory filings. This role reports to the Head of the MSIDU and involves managing a team of junior clinical development colleagues. Your work will be vital in maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of our R&D organization, positioning Biogen as a leader in immunology. By collaborating with research, biomarkers, and external innovation functions, your contributions will be integral to the successful transition from research to development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accountability and primary oversight of the execution of multiple MSIDU portfolio drug assets
  • Lead R2D activities from clinical perspective and ensure successful First-in-Human and First-in-Patient trials.
  • Deliver scientific leadership across trial level DU activities in partnership with various functions.
  • Represent Biogen’s Immunology DU in external collaborations and events.
  • Hold primary relationships in internal and external scientific collaborations.
  • Act as the Immunology DU representative in business development activities.

Qualifications

  • MD with significant clinical experience; clinical training in internal medicine is highly desired, and subspecialty training in Rheumatology or Dermatology preferred
  • At least 10 years of clinical and clinical research experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience and industry experience in clinical drug development.
  • Extensive clinical or drug development experience in immunology conditions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strategic and critical thinking in R2D transitions and Early Clinical Development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and analytical skills.
