Essential Job Functions:
Executive Director, Clinical Business Operations serves as a strategic leader responsible for driving operational strategy, organizational effectiveness, portfolio governance, and business performance across the Clinical Operations organization. Leads enterprise-level business operations initiatives spanning Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Sciences, Clinical Systems, Biosample Operations, and other cross-functional partners. Establishes scalable operating models, enhances organizational performance, enables data-driven decision making, and drives execution of strategic priorities.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Clinical Operations leadership to develop and execute operational strategy; translate corporate objectives into execution plans.
- Advise senior leadership on organizational design, resource strategy, capability development, and operational effectiveness.
- Lead transformational initiatives to improve scalability, productivity, and performance.
- Develop and maintain the Clinical Business Operations roadmap.
- Establish governance frameworks; lead executive portfolio reviews and performance management.
- Develop executive business insights, performance metrics, and strategic analyses; ensure visibility of risks and execution challenges.
- Define enterprise KPIs; drive accountability through performance reporting and operational reviews.
- Lead continuous improvement and benchmark against industry best practices; standardize planning, governance, reporting, and business practices.
- Oversee capacity planning and workforce strategy; partner with Finance on budget and long-range planning.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives and change management; build alignment among senior leaders.
- Build, lead, and develop the Clinical Business Operations organization; coach and mentor leaders and staff.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications (Qualifications):
- Bachelorβs degree in science/healthcare field, nursing degree, or equivalent.
- 15+ years in biotech/pharma/CRO/healthcare industry.
- Significant leadership experience in Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, Business Operations, Program Management, or related areas.
- Preferred: experience leading Clinical Operations Business Operations, Portfolio Management, PMO, Operational Strategy.
- Demonstrated experience with planning processes, governance, executive reporting, performance metrics.
- Proven ability to influence executives, drive change, and build relationships with CROs and vendors.
- Advanced financial/resource planning and business management acumen.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced matrix environment.
- Strategic/analytical problem-solving; excellent communication and executive presence.
- Strong planning, organization, and time management; ability to support multiple projects.
- In-depth working knowledge of GCP and ICH guidelines.
- Flexibility to travel domestically/internationally as required.
