Role Summary
Engineering Manager, Data. Lead our Data Infrastructure Team, mentor and enable a data-driven culture, and collaborate across tech, science, and business to translate data needs into clear solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead our Data Infrastructure Team - direct line manager for the data infrastructure team, building and operating a data platform to discover and query across Recursionβs data, including billions of compounds and petabytes of image/video data, supporting drug discovery and analytics.
- Be hands on - participate in architecture, design, proofs of concept, and coding, collaborating with the Tech Lead.
- Act as a mentor, coach, and sponsor - share technical, leadership, and managerial skills to deliver impact and growth across teams.
- Enable a data driven culture - work with stakeholders to maximize value from data; address problems from data locality to company-wide metric definitions.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in a hands-on technical data role with active engagement in technical discussions and decisions.
- 2+ years experience managing data engineers.
- People-first mindset and understanding of how organizational structure influences outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to learn from and teach peers in data, performance, scalability, and system architecture.
- Willingness to learn parts of the tech stack; experience with Python, dbt, Big Query, Postgres, Fivetran, Prefect, Looker, Spotfire, Atlan and GCP preferred.
- Fluency in life sciences or drug discovery is a plus but not required.
