Engineering Associate Director (AD) - Device Assembly

Role: Engineering Associate Director leading the device assembly engineering team supporting a new Lilly manufacturing site for parenteral medicines. Objectives include managing process, automation, and maintenance engineering to ensure asset delivery, commissioning, qualification, validation, and startup of packaging lines, with ongoing support for operations. Responsibilities encompass team leadership, technical support for equipment and utilities (e.g., autoclaves, isolators, warehouse systems), continuous process improvement, compliance, and regulatory readiness. The position involves leading root cause analyses, change management, and troubleshooting, with a focus on equipment reliability, process optimization, and environmental safety. Collaboration spans cross-functional teams, including SMEs, quality, and regulatory units. Representing engineering in governance and supporting capital projects is required. Leadership entails direct management of engineering and maintenance staff, coaching, and fostering a safety-focused, high-performance culture. Qualifications include a bachelor’s in engineering and 7+ years of process engineering experience, with preferred expertise in equipment optimization, automation, validated processes, and regulatory standards (FDA, EMEA, OSHA). Experience with highly automated systems, aseptic filling, device assembly, and manufacturing systems (MES, ASRS, Trackwise) is advantageous. Up to 20% travel and shift work may be needed, with on-call responsibilities during startup. The role is pivotal in supporting Lilly’s growth and manufacturing innovation for biopharma products, particularly in device assembly and sterile injectable production.
